Woah, so Nintendo just dropped some kind of bombshell about its Switch 2 overheating. Yep, they went on X (formerly known as Twitter, but let’s be honest, everyone still calls it Twitter) to say that their consoles could turn into mini furnaces if you’re trying to game outside in the blazing sun. I mean, I get it. It’s been like, a billion degrees outside lately. Maybe not a billion, but close enough.
Anyway, they’re saying you should use these things in temps between, uh, 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. That’s roughly 41 to 95 in Fahrenheit, for those who don’t speak Celsius. Pretty sure that’s most of us. They even tossed in a warning about Japan’s scorching weather lately. So, please, don’t fry your console or yourself.
And you know what? People have actually been complaining about this since, like, early July. Apparently, the fans on these little devices are spinning like crazy. Some units even gave up the ghost and crashed. Imagine trying to hop into a game of something intense like Cyberpunk 2077, and then boom, your console’s too hot to handle. Actually, this was happening with games that aren’t supposed to roast your device, like Pokémon. Yeah, seriously!
But here’s the kicker: think about folks in really hot places. I’m talking about the Middle East or Sahara hot. Those guys need air-conditioning just to play Nintendo. And with the planet going all “global warming,” more people might have to start gaming in their freezers. Just kidding, but kinda not.
So even though the Switch 2 got some hardware love from its predecessor, it’s like, still this little engine that couldn’t, compared to some beefier handhelds out there. Things like the GPD Win 5 or Ayaneo Next 2 are packing way more heat. Literally. But hey, if you’re hooked on those super cool Nintendo exclusives, you might just have to deal with your console getting a bit toasty.
In the end, if you want more spicy updates from Tom’s Hardware — ’cause who wouldn’t — remember to hit them up on Google News. They’ve got all the juicy tidbits, coming right at ya. Save that follow button for later, though. Or now, whatever works.
