Man, Battlefield 6. So, it’s happening. EA had this big reveal event where, honestly, they just let everything spill out — like when you accidentally tip a jar of marbles, and it’s all clinky-clank chaos everywhere. Streamers were all over the place, showing off the gameplay, and it was both cool and overwhelming. Anyway, there’s this big buzz around the PC version, and not everyone’s exactly thrilled about some stuff. But let’s dig into it.
So, Battlefield Studios decided to roll out this thing called Javelin Anticheat for PCs. Sounds like a high-tech shield from a sci-fi movie, right? Apparently, it’s EA’s super sneaky background thing for catching cheaters. It’s been cooking since 2022, even though they only slapped the “Javelin” name on it earlier this year. I guess they thought it sounded cooler? It’s already part of games like Madden and F1. Who’da thought?
Javelin is making an appearance in the next Battlefield beta, too. Now, why do they keep mentioning software stuff that most folks glaze over? Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 — technical jargon that makes my brain sizzle — but hey, it’s crucial for running this anticheat thingamajig. Most PCs have this TPM thing, but it’s like trying to remember if your car has those new-fangled headlights.
Kernel-level anticheat — sounds intense, doesn’t it? It’s not news for those deep into gaming. It’s like letting a friend rummage through your fridge to catch potato chip bandits. Other big game titles have the same approach. Call of Duty does it with Ricochet (who names these things?), and there’re others like BattlEye. But the idea of letting something fiddle around in the basement of your OS makes some folks squirm. Especially the Linux crowd, who just can’t catch a break.
Even with its issues and all, it’s effective. Well, as much as anything can be against cheat-savvy players. It’s kind of become a “take it or leave it” situation for anyone dabbling in modern multiplayer stuff.
Anyway, Battlefield 6 drops on October 10 (mark your calendars, people!) for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. So, yeah, gear up.
