I’m gonna be honest—when The Witcher 3 dropped, it hit like a cannonball on my unsuspecting teenage self. Like, BAM! Suddenly, I’m this witcher dude, Geralt, slashing at monsters and trying not to tick off either my sorta-daughter Ciri or that fierce flame Yennefer. The game’s got this whole “choices matter” vibe going on, yeah? But me and my itchy trigger finger kinda, well, got us into a few messes.
See, back then, I hadn’t even bothered with the first two games (oops), so my knowledge was basically “Oooh, magic stuff!” I mean, I was just out there with my shiny swords, hoping for the best. Along the way, though, there’s this one character, Keira Metz. She’s living in this creepy, bug-infested place called Velen and has that look of someone really missing her old life of castles and fancy noodles or whatever.
[Insert random spoiler alert here, you’ve been warned.]
So Keira’s tangled up with all this sorceress drama, something called the Lodge (sounds boujie, I know), trying to cozy up to the worst possible dude: Radovid, who really hates magic. Why’d she think that was gonna work? Who knows! But, hey, desperate times, right?
Now, here comes the part where I should’ve known better. But, 18-year-old me? Yeah, not so much into the “saving often” bit. I mean, I straight-up let her go, thinking she’d work her witchy charms. Then, I went off to do… other, possibly regrettable things in the game. Can’t even remember what. Because, y’know, distractions.
Fast-forward — or maybe backward? Not sure — to some point in Novigrad. Triss drops this bomb about Keira being, um, well, not alive anymore. And what do I get? A big, fat, virtual punch to the gut. Seeing her reduced to a quest item was just… well, let’s just say the game does a good job at making you feel all the feels. Even if it’s a slap to the face with the “Save More Often” lesson.
And that’s the tale, I guess. A stumbling mix of magic, misguided trust, and a digital heartache that still stings a bit. Anyway, remember: beautiful sorceresses might not have all the answers—and always backup your game saves. Seriously, it might keep you from that Keira-shaped heartbreak.
