Alright, picture this: Nintendo’s got this new Switch 2 thing. Looks cool, right? But the screen… yeesh. Some reviewer from China, goes by Chimolog (cool name, BTW), said the screen’s response time is not just bad, but like, stunningly bad—averaging at 17.06 ms. I don’t even know how they measured it, but hey, that’s the claim.
Now, here’s the funny part, or not really funny if you’re picky about screens: even at its best, it clocked an 8.88 ms. At its sluggish worst? A turtle-paced 27.46 ms. To put it in simpler terms, trying to enjoy a smooth 60 FPS on this is like… let’s just say you might want to close one eye and squint with the other. Other monitors, including Chimolog’s pile of samples, basically mopped the floor with the Switch 2 in this area.
Oh! And there’s this Innocn M2U 27 Mini-LED monitor thrown in there too, because why not? That thing has an 11.06 ms response time, making the Switch look like it’s tripping over its own feet.
But it’s not all doom and gloom! Apparently, Nintendo seemed to have poured effort everywhere else on the display. Chimolog noticed stuff like, um, brightness and colors? Yes! It’s got a contrast ratio of 1309:1 and checks all these color boxes—DCI-P3, Adobe RGB, you name it. If numbers are your jam, and you just love that sRGB, DCI-P3, and adobe RGB sweet, sweet embrace, this might be your kinda thing.
Here’s a little curveball: the text readability kinda stinks. The “special RGB” layout thingamajig makes words look a bit like a hangover morning—blurry. Toss some OLED drama in there, and you’ve got what we got!
Now, about this whole 120 Hz capability. You’d think that would be where the magic happens, but nope. Didn’t get tested, so mystery hangs over that one. Common sense says maybe faster refresh rates would help? But who knows with this one.
Despite all this display drama, you gotta laugh (or cry?): the thing is selling like hotcakes! Like, broke some kinda record with 3.5 million sold in just a few days. People apparently can’t say no to Nintendo. Heck, exclusive games, right? Fans will put up with a lot just to play those.
Fingers crossed for an OLED refresh or something down the line because, really, Nintendo, help a gamer out!
Okay, enough rambling. Go play—or maybe stare at those beautiful colors if you’re brave enough!
