So, get this—Gearbox just rolled out this August 2025 thingamajig where you can snatch up a bunch of Golden Keys for five different Borderlands games. Why do they give stuff away? No clue, but it’s a thing with them. You snag ’em using Shift codes, which sounds fancier than it is.
I stumbled upon this picture that’s supposedly from Borderlands 3. Do with that what you will. Anyway, back on track—Shift, Gearbox’s magical platform, popped up way back when Borderlands 2 was still shiny and new in 2012. It’s like their go-to spot for these sudden key drop events.
Now, speaking of sudden—Randy Pitchford, Gearbox’s big cheese, tweeted out another freebie. You punch in “SFX3T-JSSJ3-3BBTT-J3BJ3-9XWXJ” in their Shift site, and voilà, three Golden Keys are yours. Catch? You gotta do this before next Thursday, which is August 14. Don’t ask me to do the math on that one.
Okay, okay—getting a bit sidetracked here—think of this like a summer bonanza. Jump through the hoop, and you get the spoils. Each Borderlands installment is making it rain Golden Keys, depending on what you’re playing on—PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Epic—you get it, all bases covered.
Apparently, you can tap into this code for each game-platform combo. So, say Borderlands 2 is your jam on Xbox? Bam, it works. Gearbox is letting folks squeeze out those keys 19 different ways. But heads up, Borderlands: GOTY Edition won’t jive with Epic Games. Doesn’t exist there, which is kinda awkward.
Oh! Before I forget, the internet whispers about some hiccups folks are having with claiming these keys. Maybe a small glitch in the machine—happens to the best of us.
Lastly, where do these sparkly keys hide once you’ve got them? That depends. In the early games, they shuffle into your inventory. But in Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s, you’ll find them chilling in your mailbox. How neat, right? Gearbox isn’t spilling on Borderlands 4 though, keeping us guessing.
And that’s the scoop, as scrambled as it is!
