So, here’s the thing, Mike Ybarra—yeah, that former Blizzard head honcho—thinks Battlefield 6 is gonna totally outdo Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, like, completely. He was saying something about it “boot stomping” CoD later this year. Guess he’s not shy about throwing some shade. Ybarra’s been around, worked at Blizzard from 2019 till 2024, and left when Microsoft swooped in. Kind of makes you wonder what’s going on behind closed doors, right?
Anyway, where was I? Oh, right, Black Ops 7. They announced it back in June, and it’s being worked on by Treyarch and Raven Software. Setting’s in 2035, with a co-op campaign and all that jazz. No release date pinned down yet, but we’re looking at 2025. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get pushed back!
Ybarra seems pretty jazzed about Battlefield shaking up the scene. He says it’ll push Call of Duty out of its comfort zone. You know, make it not lazy—whatever that means. He’s got issues with CoD since 2016. Too many cheaters, messy interface, and just, I dunno, those “rainbow colors”? Go figure.
And then there’s Activision, all confident and stuff. They’re not sweating about Battlefield 6. Someone on the inside says CoD’s just too big to fail, like it’s this untouchable giant. Even with Battlefield breathing down its neck, they seem to think CoD’s got this in the bag.
Tangentially, have you seen those numbers from the Battlefield 6 Open Beta? Over 330,000 players! Crazy, right? And it’s not even officially out yet. Seems like folks are curious if it’ll live up to the hype.
Meanwhile, Treyarch and Raven aren’t twiddling their thumbs. Black Ops 7 is bringing some heat against cheaters. They’re rolling out tech like Trusted Platform Mode 2.0 and Secure Boot. Not super techy myself, but hopefully, it keeps the game fair.
Anyway, it’s like a wild west standoff in the gaming world. Who knows what’ll happen? Just gotta wait and see how it all shakes out.
