Delta Force made a triumphant return to PCs last year, lighting up fans of this iconic tactical shooter series. Now, it’s expanding its reach by delivering its signature free-to-play, team-based tactical action to mobile devices. The buzz around this mobile launch has been incredible, with over 20 million eager players pre-registering on Android and iOS before the kick-off on April 21st.
I caught up with Leo Yao, the Head of Studio, and Shadow Guo, Game Director at Team Jade, to dive into the journey of developing Delta Force Mobile. We explored everything from the game’s rich content and stunning graphics to its technical aspirations and the refreshing play-to-win, rather than pay-to-win, philosophy.
### Bringing Epic Battles to Your Pocket
Delta Force is designed to bring life-like battlefields, class-based Operators, a comprehensive arsenal of weapons, and various game modes for both single-players and squads, all tucked neatly into a mobile package. It’s like a nostalgic ride back into the past with everything we loved about the original series wrapped in modern gaming finesse. Among the exciting features, players can look forward to the world’s first 24v24 battleground experience with vehicles, as well as an extraction-based PvPvE mode. The team prioritized delivering a consistent and rich experience for gamers.
“Our ambition was to create a seamless AAA shooter experience for mobile gamers that’s every bit as captivating as what PC players enjoy,” Guo shared. “We introduce players to fresh modes and maps unlike anything they’ve encountered before, filled with action and enjoyment. That’s why we’re especially thrilled about rolling out pioneering features like our unprecedented 24v24 large-scale battlefield, breaking new ground for mobile shooters.”
### Gamers On-the-Go
Delta Force Mobile not only opens its arms to entirely new mobile-centric players but also entices PC players to take the game wherever life leads them. Central to this is its cross-progression with PCs, supported by Google Play Games on PC, which lets players seamlessly switch between platforms. Currently, this interconnected content spans 7 Warfare maps, 4 Operations maps, 10 Operators, 12 vehicles, and 55 weapon sets, with more to come. Your progression and inventory stay consistent across devices.
Yao explained, “We wanted to ensure that Delta Force offers engaging cross-platform experiences, whether someone’s grabbing a quick match on their phone during a commute or diving into a longer session on their PC. Our focus was on designing a suite of interesting content that all players can access and enjoy, regardless of platform.”
### “No One Gets Left Behind”
The essence of Delta Force also shines through in how the game is optimized for various devices. The developers have worked diligently to ensure the mobile launch caters well to players everywhere, from the most tech-savvy to those with older devices.
Yao noted, “Our aim was to remove worry about device compatibility, hence, we’ve kept system requirements approachable. Even an iPhone 7, dating back a decade, suffices for the full Delta Force experience.”
This mobile iteration brings high-definition visuals, complete with global illumination systems, enveloping players in deeply immersive worlds. From realistic operator designs to intricately detailed maps and striking in-game effects, attention to detail is evident at every turn.
For shooter fans, high FPS is crucial, and that’s precisely why this aspect was a cornerstone in developing the mobile version. Utilizing cutting-edge technologies like Vulkan and Metal, the game achieves an impressive 120 native FPS, boasting about 50% higher efficiency compared to many top-tier mobile shooters. Together with low input-latency, the game promises one of the sleekest experiences available in mobile shooting games.
### Play To Win
Delta Force’s progression rests on a fair play-to-win approach, enticing both new and existing players to earn unique goodies. At launch, mobile players can cash in on a plethora of rewards simply by logging in and playing. There are $500 worth of rewards available across both PC and mobile, including 148 weapon appearances, 21 vehicle appearances, and over 270 other rewards.
“We’re devoted to steering clear of pay-to-win models, with player inputs actively driving our game’s development,” they said. “Rewarding our community for their commitment is key, allowing them a fulfilling sense of progression. Delta Force is all about putting the community first.”
Delta Force Mobile is now available for IOS and Android. The game is also accessible on PC. Dive into the action today!
