Alright, so, here’s the thing. Borderlands 4 is just around the corner, and Gearbox is doing that thing where they give you a peek at the Vault Hunters. Honestly, I get it, they want to reel you in with backstories and gameplay tidbits. Vex was up first — not forgetting Rafa, who’s in the spotlight now. Each of them has their quirks, but, you know, Rafa’s past might mesh with his gameplay more than anyone thought. Weird, right?
So Rafa. Exo-Soldier. Once upon a time, he was with Tediore, but microgravity did a number on him — talk about a birth defect. He’s got this whole exo-suit thing going on to survive. Tediore wasn’t exactly the nicest bunch, so he bailed. It’s like, I swear, you want to move on, but with Tediore guns in the game, his past kinda lingers.
Anyway, Rafa’s skill trees are out there now. I’ve looked, and wow, it’s all about speed and aggression. Rafa’s got this thing called Overdrive. Basically, it’s like hitting NOS in a Fast & Furious movie. Speed up, more damage, the whole shebang.
And check this out, his skills have these wild names. “This Year’s Gimmick” is all melee with this Arc-Blade jazz. But, hey, guns are his main squeeze. One skill after another, they encourage you to be all, “Ammo? Who needs it?”
Here’s some: Las Jaras regenerates ammo while Overdrive is rockin’. Metal Management makes ammo consumption a non-issue during action skills. I mean, infinite ammo? Sign me up, right?
Oh, and he has El Catrin and Awe — both of which just layer on critical hits like crazy. The Thrill goes faster under Overdrive. It’s like Rafa never left the speedway.
Tediore seems like his dark shadow, even if he’d like to forget. Their guns? Yeah, they’re cheap but fit his playstyle. High fire rate, easy swappability, plus they explode when you chuck ‘em. Rafa’s skills just ignore the downsides, so it’s like, why not revisit those Tediore ties?
Despite Rafa wanting to ghost his past, Borderlands 4 players might play therapist, digging up history for that sweet, sweet efficiency. It’s almost poetic — or maybe that’s just me overthinking it. But who cares? It’s a game, and it’s looking to be a wild ride.
