Okay, so here’s the deal. Electronic Arts, you know, the big shot in US publishing, is finally saying goodbye to Anthem next year. Like, they’re pulling the plug on January 12th, 2026. I mean, kinda saw it coming, right? They put up this blog post rambling on about it, and yeah—you can’t buy any more in-game currency. But hey, if you’ve already got some of that premium stuff, you can still use it.
They did this thing in the blog where they got all mushy, being super thankful for everyone’s dedication and passion. You know, the usual corporate love-fest. I suppose that’s nice, though a tad predictable. Anyway, they’re saying no layoffs are happening because of this. But honestly, who can say what might go down in the future? The crystal ball’s still very hazy on that one.
Anthem was supposed to be BioWare and Electronic Arts’ hot shot attempt at a live-service game. Came out in early 2019 and, well, it kinda flopped. I mean, it didn’t really snag a crowd, and whispers about bad development juju started floating around. Just couldn’t catch a break it seems.
Later that year, BioWare was all, “Hey, we’re gonna fix things!” They even planned this whole remake deal called Anthem Next. But surprise twist—yeah, it got canned too. Real bummer for those holding out hope. So there you have it… the end of Anthem. Not sure why, but the sound of that word “Anthem” always made me think of those anthems they play at sports games. Kinda fitting, I guess.
