Alright, so here’s the thing — I was diving into this new draft format magic’s got going. You know Magic: The Gathering, right? Anyway — oh wait, never mind, let’s just get to it.
So, picture this: you’ve got your usual Commander group, four people huddled around trying this new draft style. No more six-to-eight people setups. What’s it called again? Oh yeah, Pick-Two Draft. You start with 12 booster packs, just like always. Grab three packs each, which is, um, the norm. But here’s the twist: instead of one card, you pick two from every pack before passing it on. It’s like Commander Masters did this already, so it’s familiar. Kinda cool, though, because it’s easier to communicate, or not. Honestly, who knows?
You draft 40 cards. Snag some basic lands if you need ’em. Then it’s down to business — split into two groups and battle it out. Winners get sweet bragging rights. Heard there’s prizes sometimes, if it’s a tourney thing. This Pick-Two thing might show up at your local game store soon, I guess. Could spice up a mundane Commander night.
Get this, they first tried Pick-Two at these MagicCon events. They even called it a Lightning Draft. No idea why, but the name just stuck with me. Maybe ‘cause of that time limit. They whip through drafting and battles in like 90 minutes. Fast and furious, right?
People have mixed feelings, of course. Some are excited; others are like, “Do I really need another format in my life?” Purists, especially. They sometimes think Commander’s muscling in on their turf, whatever that means. Still, it’s gonna stick around at MagicCons. There’s one in Atlanta, probably in September. Or was it October? Anyway, yeah, change is weird. But new games, man. New games are fun.
