You know that weird moment, like when you stumble upon a box of old letters you forgot you had? That’s kinda how it felt when I heard this thing about Anthem. Yep, EA decided to pull the plug on the servers for this game called Anthem. It was one of those always-online, team-up-and-fly-around multiplayer games. Anyway, they say it’ll be gone by next year. January 12, 2026, to be exact. I mean, seriously, it’s got over 180 days left, but yeah, that’s it. And oh, forget about buying any of those shiny in-game currencies now. But if you’ve still got some, feel free to spend like there’s no tomorrow. EA even tossed in a “thanks for sticking around” kind of note. Classic, right?
So there’s this FAQ part — did anyone read FAQs anymore? — and it says Anthem stays available to play till D-Day next year. Bought it digitally? You’re good until they flip the switch. Though, as of now, it’s vanished from the digital store shelves. And with a disappearing act, it’ll ghost out of EA Play’s library on August 15. If you’re still reading, good on ya.
Here’s the kicker — not exactly earth-shattering but kinda unexpected. EA really didn’t show Anthem much love lately. They even pulled the plug on a redesign that was supposed to happen ages ago. It’s like they dropped their pen mid-sentence and walked away.
Back in Feb 2020, Anthem was promised a rebirth. Casey Hudson — big boss at the time — talking about reinventing stuff. But then poof, he left BioWare. Fast forward a year, Christian Dailey basically said, “Look, folks, Anthem NEXT? Not happening.”
In its glory days, Anthem let you zoom around an alien planet in these fancy flying suits called Javelins. Good times, eh? Launched in January 2019 for PS4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Maybe it flew too close to the sun, like Icarus in a power armor suit. Wild ride, but now… just another game in the cloud.
