Although Capcom hasn’t launched a new Ace Attorney game since 2017, the company continues to breathe life into the beloved franchise in various creative ways. Over the past several years, Capcom has ported almost all the games from the series to contemporary gaming platforms. Then, in March 2025, they brought Ace Attorney into the spotlight once again through a unique crossover event with their popular 2023 fighting game, Street Fighter 6. This event introduced the Turnabout Gala battle pass, enticing players with exclusive rewards available only from March 3 to March 24.
The collaboration between Street Fighter 6 and Ace Attorney was packed with engaging content. It featured a Capcom arcade game, Steel Samurai-themed avatar gear, an Objection! emote, and a collection of music tracks directly lifted from the Ace Attorney series. The battle pass even included stickers and camera frames inspired by Ace Attorney, perfect for fans using the game’s photo mode. Yet, as with most battle passes, these special items weren’t just handed out for free—players had to spend some in-game currency to get their hands on them. While it’s great to see Capcom tip its hat to Ace Attorney in such a manner, the collaboration could have been so much more compelling with a few significant additions, like introducing new guest characters.
In the rich history of Street Fighter, it’s common to see characters from different franchises making appearances, often through DLCs or special re-releases. Unfortunately, Street Fighter 6 has been a bit stingy in this department. So far, the only guest characters to make their way into Street Fighter 6 are Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from SNK’s Fatal Fury and King of Fighters, and they were added during the game’s second season of DLC.
It’s hardly a surprise that fans were a bit let down by the somewhat shallow crossover events in Street Fighter 6. Capcom has brought other franchises into the mix, such as Spy x Family and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but these events primarily offered cosmetic items. Many players likely hoped these collaborations would bring new fighters to the roster, each boasting unique abilities and moves. Instead, they received pricey skins that offered little more than visual flair.
It’s especially disappointing that the Ace Attorney crossover followed the same path. Fans have been eagerly waiting to see their favorite franchise characters in a fighting game setting once more. Previously, Phoenix Wright, the main character from Ace Attorney, made a memorable entrance into a similar game, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, back in 2011. Despite being a lawyer with no combat skills, Phoenix felt like a legitimate character rather than a comedic afterthought.
Capcom had the perfect chance to enrich the Street Fighter 6 experience by adding Phoenix Wright as a playable character, echoing his inclusion in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Yet, instead of seizing this opportunity, they decided to fill the event with Ace Attorney-themed stickers, photo frames, and gear. While cosmetic items can be fun, when they’re the main attraction in a crossover event, they often leave players wanting more.
