Oh man, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is making a comeback after, like, forever! I mean, seriously, it first hit the scene in 2002 (yeah, back in the days of flip phones and dial-up internet) as the follow-up to Onimusha: Warlords. This game dives deeper into the chaotic Sengoku era adventures by bringing in a fresh storyline and a new main guy—Jubei Yagyu. He’s out there trying to settle some scores.
So, we’re looking at ten years after the original Onimusha stuff went down. Our villain, Nobunaga Oda, is back in action—this guy just won’t quit! His plan? Hand Japan over on a silver platter, starting with a sneak attack on Yagyu Village. Jubei, well, he comes home and it’s just… ruin everywhere. Off he goes, determined to face off with ol’ Nobunaga. On his wild ride, Jubei bumps into a crew of four who might—or might not—jump in to help. Hand out some thoughtful gifts, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll tag along and fight. What you give ‘em could even change up the story’s ending. How cool is that?
And here’s the quirky bit. Gifts. You pick them up in all sorts of places—shops, buddies, hidden spots you trip over. Just choose wisely. Each ally’s got their own fave things. Get cozy enough, and they might even become playable characters 🎮 for a bit.
We had a little chitchat with some folks at Capcom, asking them about their fave gift reactions in the game. Keep your eyes peeled for these while you’re playing, trust me!
Right, here’s a fun one. Ekei Ankokuji—a Buddhist priest with a fondness for life’s, uh, less holy pleasures? Money, booze, women. The trifecta. Offer him something like a huqin or a folding fan, and you might just earn a giddy dance with a grin thrown in.
Jump to Magoichi Saiga. This guy’s running the Kishu Saiga Gun Team. Brainy and brave, but into his books like you wouldn’t believe. Hand him one book, and he’ll probably grumble about wanting the whole collection. Patience.
Then there’s the young ninja, Kotaro Fuma. Hand him something like a Tengu mask, and he’ll give you that look—like, “Seriously? This ancient stuff?” It’s a laugh, really. Poor Jubei, taking it back awkwardly.
Oyu, dressed in Western-style armor, always gives off this vibe, you know? She’s got layers. She’s with Jubei in the battle zone but suspicious—especially when you hand The Art of War over.
Hilarious example, though! Magoichi’s taste buds getting a workout when you toss both raw fish and wasabi his way. Good times!
And Ekei again—with anything hair-related, it’s like walking on eggshells. Imagine giving someone a comb and getting a look that says it all!
Tons more to do and find in Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. Play around with gifts, trust me, it’s worth it. Unfold your story as you go, pick it up now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Just a heads-up: there’s a specially remastered version out now—snazzier graphics, smoother controls, even some new modes to challenge yourself if you’re feeling daring. You can dive into a gallery too, full of character sketches, and who doesn’t love a good soundtrack amping up the feels? There’s even a Hell mode if you’re feeling particularly masochistic. Loads more? Yep, bundle deals, extra costumes if you’ve got past game saves. Keeps things fresh!
So slap on your armor, or special outfits if you’ve got Onimusha: Warlords save data, and sashay back into feudal Japan. Just avoid Nobunaga!
