So, I’m sitting here thinking about the Nintendo Switch 2 and this Nvidia DLSS support thing, right? I mean, it’s kinda like the big gorilla of making graphics look fancy without needing a beefy machine. Perfect for something like the Switch 2, which, let’s face it, doesn’t exactly have a ton of oomph in the graphics department.
Yet, here’s the kicker: even though DLSS is all set up for developers to use, not everyone’s jumping on board. Weird, huh? Like take Donkey Kong Bananza for instance. Digital Foundry did a deep dive on this and were like, “Why no DLSS?” It’s this twisted mystery wrapped in a banana peel.
— Oh, and before I forget, if you’re into the video stuff, Digital Foundry put out a full review on YouTube.
Anyway, back to our story: so, some developers are waving a caution flag, saying performance dips might be a thing in Bananza. Could it be ’cause the game’s been cooking for years? And they didn’t slap in DLSS? Maybe. But apparently, they’re making do with AMD’s FSR 1 and this thing called SMAA. Fancy names for getting rid of those jaggy lines. Or something like that.
Also, Mario Kart World. Seriously? No DLSS there either. I was all set for Nintendo to roll out all the bells and whistles on this one. Kinda disappointed it doesn’t even do HDR right.
Oh, hey, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—might just go big with DLSS. But who knows? We’re still waiting to see if that’s actually a thing.
So yeah, that’s where we’re at. Will more developers hop on the DLSS train? Maybe. Or maybe not. Keep an eye out for updates, ‘cause things can change faster than you can say “upscaling.”
