You know that feeling when you stumble upon something so random, yet so perfectly delightful? That’s what Misc. A Tiny Tale feels like. Imagine a pint-sized robot on a quest, and yeah, we’re diving into some chaotic chibi vibes here. But if you’re thinking “Oh, it’s another Chibi-Robo knockoff,” hold up a sec. We might still be obsessing over Chibi-Robo if it was as darn captivating as Misc. I mean, the charm levels here are off the charts.
So, you’re this little guy named Buddy. No, not your average Joe, but a tiny robot. He’s got this buddy—literally called Bag Boy—isn’t that just the cutest? Anyway, they’re off to figure out why their world just exploded and scattered these Golden Cogs everywhere. Honestly, I wasn’t planning to get all completionist with the game, but surprise, surprise—I couldn’t stop myself from trying to find every cog, bit of trash, and not-so-secret secret out there. Oh, and no annoying timers rushing you around. Just chill, explore, do your thing.
Let me go off on a tangent here—levels have this unique flair, like one where you basically turn into a robo-gardener. Seeds, weeds, the whole green-thumb gig. Sometimes I thought, “Did they make this world a tad too big?” But then, I’d find something cool, forget my complaints, and keep going. Those hidden challenges, though—they’re no joke. Buddy’s jumps are, um, floaty? Like, ever tried to jump on a surface but couldn’t tell where you’d land? Yeah, that.
But what really caught me off guard? The story takes some wild turns! I won’t spoil it, but when a tale starts cozy and ends up tugging hard at your heartstrings, now that’s a twist. The deeper I got, the more I was glued to my screen, needing to see how it all wrapped up.
Sidenote about the techy stuff—I played it on Switch 2, right? And man, does it shine. Sure, it took a moment to load sometimes, but hey, it’s Switch magic doing its thing. Even without an official Switch 2 patch, the upgrade is noticeable. Everything’s smoother, like a fresh jar of Skippy. But, wouldn’t it be sweet to have that patch? Fingers crossed.
At first glance, you’d think Misc was just like any other platformer, but nope. It’s more like if Chibi-Robo and Mario 64 had a baby—crazy, right? I was legit hooked the whole way through, even if the platforming got a little tricky. Hands down, it’s shooting to the top of my indie list this year.
