Alright, so picture this: it’s been, like, two decades since Leeroy Jenkins made his epic debut in the chaotic world of Upper Blackrock Spire. May 11, 2005, the day a goofy little video hit WarcraftMovies. Folks who love World of Warcraft machinima know the site. Bet they still get a chuckle out of this one.
So there’s this guild, cheekily named Pals for Life. In the video, the leader’s all serious, laying down plans like he’s in some military strategy meeting. “Can you do me a number crunch real quick?” he goes, like it’s no big deal. And wouldn’t you know it, the math guy throws out, “I’m coming up with 32.33 repeating, of course, percentage of survival.” I mean, what even is that? Seriously, don’t ever give numbers to Leeroy because he just goes, “Time’s up,” and then – wait for it – “Leeeeeeeeeroy Jenkins!!!” Classic.
And of course, that’s when chaos takes the stage. Leeroy charges in, having been AWOL, and just steps on those dragon eggs, like he’s trying to do the worst thing imaginable. Hatchlings everywhere. Total wipeout, everyone just gets trashed. Once it’s all over, you hear it: “Goddamn it, Leeroy.” Someone else chimes in, “You moron.” But what does our hero say in his defense? “At least I have chicken.” Of course.
Now, check this out, Kotaku spilled the beans way back in 2017. Turns out the whole skit was just that—a big staged laugher by the Pals for Life crew, making fun out of the madness. Ben Vinson, the guy with the camera (not Leeroy, by the way), he said, “We didn’t think anyone would believe it was real, we thought it was so obviously satire, but we were wrong.” I guess everyone wants to buy into the idea that charging at life – with chicken, no less – is somehow the way to meet our doom.
