You know, it’s like Nintendo is on a mission to mess with our nostalgia. So, they’ve gone and announced — get this — the next game hitting the Switch 2’s GameCube collection is none other than Super Mario Strikers. Yeah, soccer, but with Mario. Coming next week, btw.
This one joins some other classics — like Soulcalibur 2, Zelda’s The Wind Waker, and that chaotic F-Zero GX — on this Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack… thing. Mark your calendar for Thursday, July 3. It’s only for Switch 2, which is, you know, Nintendo being Nintendo.
Super Mario Strikers, came out back in 2005. Remember that? It tried to do for soccer what Smash Bros. did for fights and Mario Kart did for racing — absolute chaos. Power-ups, Mario characters, the whole circus. It was actually called Mario Smash Football in Europe and Oz. Makes sense, right?
So, yeah, maybe it didn’t hit the big leagues like Smash Bros., but it was a good time with friends, especially in that local multiplayer frenzy. Forget the soccer rules; you could just shove folks out of the way. And Super Strikes?! Score twice in one go? Madness.
This game’s just one in a lineup of seven that Nintendo teased when they drummed up this GameCube thing on Switch 2. Others we’re waiting on? Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Chibi-Robo!, Luigi’s up to his ghostly tricks in Mansion, and Pokémon Colosseum. When they’ll drop? Your guess is as good as mine.
