Oh, hey, so you know that game Timberborn? Yeah, the one all about beavers building stuff. It popped up in Early Access back in ‘21. Somehow, it’s already sold like a million copies. Mind-blowing, right? Despite being huge, the creators, Mechanistry, are just chillin’ with the final version. No rush at all. It’s like, four years in, and they’re just vibing.
Anyway, I messed around with it a bit — not gonna lie, I’m kinda into these little beaver dudes. They’re just out there, doin’ their thing, building and preparing for winter. Micheal Amielanczyk, the comms guy, was chatting with me about how their habits are just perfect for a sandbox game. What’s new? Update 7 just dropped with wild stuff like ziplines and “tubeways.” I mean, roller coasters for beavers? Why not?
Apparently, after updates 6 and 7, fans are like, “Yo, this is ready for a full release!” Micheal’s all, “Chill, we’re taking our sweet time until it’s just right.” Gotta respect that.
Told them it felt complete, though. Seriously, all these quirky features and fan-driven ideas — it’s a whole scene on Reddit and Discord. Adrian Bociek, a designer dude there, was like, “Yeah, sometimes fans do crazy things with our tools, and we’re just like, ‘Okay, let’s roll with it.’” Ha, imagine being surprised by your own game.
They see Early Access as this cool, two-way street. More time for them, more goodies for players. Seems fair? It’s not about making it playable — it already is. They just crave perfection, like keeping that sweet “Overwhelmingly Positive” badge on Steam.
I bugged Micheal about future plans. He’s kinda secretive, honestly. “Too early to discuss,” he says. Timberborn’s their only baby for now, which maybe explains the care? 1.0 feels like some mystical goal. I guess we’ll see when it happens.
